- Service constraints
- The published results are fully public on the web, so this service is suitable only for fully public data. The data must be extracted and embedded within the published dashboards, live database links are not available. There are no options for automatic updates when the underlying data changes. The dashboards are published in US data centres and this cannot be changed. Dashboards must be built using a Windows or Mac desktop or laptop
- System requirements
-
- A Windows or Mac desktop is required to design dashboards
- Access to public internet to publish dashboards

- Support levels
- Our standard support service is by email 0800-1800 Mon-Fri excluding UK holidays and we respond to all questions within 8 business hours. We regularly respond to questions within 4 business hours, and we triage all inbound questions to establish urgency and set appropriate priorities. We can offer several extensions to the standard service at extra cost: extended hours support at 10x7 or 24x7; 4 business hour response; phone support; web chat support; onsite support. The support service is provided for issues, incidents and service requests. We will also respond to questions about how to use the service, but we reserve the right to direct clients to our training services if users are clearly not equipped to use the service competently.

Onboarding and offboarding
- Getting started
- There are four types of onboarding help available, which may be used in combination: online help; key contact getting started assistance; additional onboarding assistance; service training courses. Key contact getting started assistance is included within the cost of the service. It is usually conducted as an interactive web screenshare session, but may also be provided as a pre-recorded video session with a follow up teleconference, or as an onsite session. Onsite sessions outside the M25 area will incur an additional cost. Online help is available to all client users of the service and is included within the cost. Additional onboarding assistance and service training courses are both provided via the companion Cloud Support service.

- End-of-contract data extraction
- The service has built-in tools that allow user data extraction. These tools are available at any time, not just at contract end, and may be used for any data extraction purpose required. There are no restrictions: all user data may be extracted from the service for any reason, at any time. User data extraction does not require supplier intervention, but clients may choose to limit this functionality to client super users or administrators. There is no limit to the number or size of data extractions performed, but the service is priced on a "fair use" basis for network charges. Excessively large or very frequent data extractions may incur an additional cost or bandwidth limits. Alternatively, the companion Cloud Support service offers assistance with data extraction, at an additional cost.
- End-of-contract process
- Prior to the end of contract/contract renewal date, we discuss the forward plan with the client key contact. In the event of contract end, we work with the key contact to ensure that all user data and collateral is retrieved or extracted before the contract end date. Although there are standard data extraction tools built in to the service, there may be a requirement for special data migration to the client's chosen new service. In that instance, we can work with the new supplier to migrate data to maximum benefit for the client, such work would be performed within the companion Cloud Support service and incur an additional charge. In the event that the client is unable to extract all required data before the contract end date, it is often possible to extend the duration of the data extraction features of the service for an additional period; or to extend the full service for an additional period; so that the client does not suffer unnecessary unavailability.

- Accessibility standards
- None or don’t know
- Description of accessibility
- The free, public service is not yet certified conformant to WCAG standards, but this is on the product roadmap.
- Accessibility testing
- The development process for the core software available in the paid service includes interface testing with assistive technologies. The free, public service is implemented differently, and does not yet benefit from the accessibility development and testing.
- API
- Yes
- What users can and can't do using the API
- Several APIs available to automate or enhance aspects of the standard platform: REST, Extract, Document, Javascript, Web Data Connector and Extensions (in beta May18). A small number of specific functions are not relevant (or available) when using the Tableau Online Visualisation as they relate to the Tableau Private Visualisation. These differences are clearly identified in the online help pages. For example, search online for 'Tableau onlinehelp API Reference'. The REST API can be used for managing users, groups and sites, updating workbooks or datasources and Integrating Tableau content with a custom app or portal. Extract API can be used to create data extracts that improve performance and provide offline access to data. Document API is used to create and deploy templates or migrate workbooks from test to production data sources. Javascript API for embedding Tableau into custom web applications. Allows a bi-directional communication between Tableau and the host application. Web Data Connector: connect to any data via HTTP/HTTPS, providing an HTML interface to end-user, storing into data extracts. Also allows automatic refreshes and authentication. Extensions API can open up a range of capabilities from 'write-back' to custom interface options and bi-directional communication between Tableau and guest application.

- Customisation available
- Yes
- Description of customisation
- The purpose of Tableau Online Visualisation is to allow customers to create their own analytics, reports and dashboards, each of which is customised to meet specific needs. Automation can be applied to the platform through the use of APIs. In addition the interface can be adapted and tailored to reflect customer branding. At an individual level the users can personalise their experience through the use of favourites, selected 'home pages', custom filter settings on views, etc.
Scaling
- Independence of resources
- Tableau Online Visualisation uses technical infrastructure hosted and maintained in EU (Dublin) data centre, and activity is constantly monitored to ensure that peak periods are supported by appropriate levels of processing power so that slow-down does not occur as a result of increased activity. Tableau publish a daily (historic) report of service availability and planned maintenance at www.trust.tableau.com

Data importing and exporting
- Data export approach
- There are tools built in to the service that allow users to export their data. User data export does not require supplier intervention, but clients may choose to limit this functionality to client super users or administrators. Users may specifiy any subset, or all, of the data that is relevent to the current export requirement. Once the data subset has been selected, invoking the export function creates a CSV file corresponding to the selection. This CSV file is then downloaded to the user computer for the required purpose.

Availability and resilience
- Guaranteed availability
- Tableau does not provide specific availability guarantees, but has architected the service to remove single points of failure and provide the highest availability possible. Tableau monitors service performance 24x7 and their engineering team works around the clock to resolve issues.
- Approach to resilience
- Tableau Online uses multiple, redundant components to provide service resilience in the event of individual component failures. The cloud service is designed to handle fluctuations in user load, in order to maintain performance levels for all users.
- Outage reporting
- Tableau Online reports good service performance, service degradations, outages and maintenance notices via an online, realtime dashboard at trust.tableau.com.
