Summary of the work We are looking for a motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to help us continue our journey of automation, reliability, and performance.

A senior DevOps delivers and integrates software to form a complete DevOps toolchain. They are responsible for planning and designing large groups of stories.

Expected contract length 6 months initial with an optional 6 month extension - subject to review at 6 months.

Who the specialist will work with The existing team is comprised mostly of supplier, contract and Civil Service resources. The specialist will be expected to be embedded into current delivery teams and will be expected to lead a small team.

Working arrangements The specialist is expected to be on-site for at least four days a week with one day optional working from home.
The specialist will be expected to attend all associated Agile ceremonies and make use of collaborative tooling (Slack, Skype, Google Docs, Confluence, Jira).
The specialist will lead a blended team of resources and be expected to provide technical leadership, guidance and knowledge transfer where required.
The specialist will adopt current, established ways of working and advise on improving them.
The specialist will be pro-active in the delivery of working software
Security clearance SC level clearance is required for this position.

Disclosure Scotland will sponsor the SC Clearance process where the specialist does not already have SC level clearance.

  • 5+ years in a practical DevOps role
  • Can demonstrate practical experience with RedHat/ Amazon Linux, ECS, and EC2
  • 5+ years’ experience coding with Python, Ansible.
  • Demonstrable experience of using VCS (Version Control System) in team environments. Eg git, Github, BitBucket.
  • Demonstrable Experience delivering CI/CD pipelines, ideally with Jenkins
  • Able to demonstrate mentoring colleagues in automation, security, and reliability, within a DevOps context
  • Demonstrable experience of Identifying manual processes suitable for automation

In order for this role to be considered outside IR35, are you aware that you cannot mandate the specialist to work a set number of days on-site, as this would constitute as 'Direction and Control' under the regulations? The successful candidate shall work 37 hours per week and the where this shall be carried out shall be negotiated with the client as part of the onboarding process.

Due to this it remain outside IR35.
17. How many interview stages are there and how long will it take to make a decision ahead of the 4/11/2019 start date? There will be an initial sift on the CV's and responses received. As we are unsure of the number of CV's/responses we will receive, we are unable to give a clear indication of when the process will be complete. We usually complete the process within 2 weeks. The 4th Nov start date is just a guide.
