Planning

Planning service
Yes
How the planning service works
An initial scoping exercise will be carried out to determine which systems are ear-marked for migration to cloud hosting, along with any related technical or business dependencies.
Project activities and resource requirements will be defined, we will discuss timelines with you and propose options for migrating the workload - for example, migrating on a tier-by-tier basis (e.g. development, QA, production) or by component (e.g. ECC, BW).
We will discuss with you how to support your production environment during the lifecycle of the project and plan how to cut-over your production environment in the available downtime.
Our Project Manager will assist with the development of a project plan specific to your estate using our templated project plan framework.
Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Decisions will be logged and managed throughout the project delivery.
Our approach to planning is flexible based on the scope and migration options of each customer, and can follow a traditional waterfall methodology, or a more agile approach where more appropriate.
Once the plan and scope has been defined and signed-off, all exceptions, changes, and key decisions will be approved by the Project Governance Board, consisting of both customer and supplier representatives, and be subject to project change control.

How the setup or migration service works
During the deploy phase, we will build out the new Azure environment including the landing zone, network connectivity, subscriptions, resource groups, disks and virtual machines as per the design and sizing in readiness to prepare the operating system for SAP. Once the operating system has been prepared, we will install the SAP software for the SAP systems in scope, ready for migration.
During the migration phase, we will develop and test the migration strategy and perform the final cutover into Azure for each SAP system. For production systems, we will perform iterative tests to fine tune the process such that the migration timing will fit the available downtime window.

How the support service works
Once you’ve made the move to the Microsoft Azure IaaS platform and operations have stabilised, you can use our “SAP on Azure: Run” service to identify opportunities for cost savings, service improvements by tackling pain points, streamlining through automation and on-going support. Through the use of the "Azure Advisor", we will help identify areas where savings could be made, e.g. Reserved Instances, Reserved Storage for storage accounts, standard storage for deallocated VMs, VM backups on selected disks, "right size" virtual machines and scheduled shut down for little-used systems.
