A Vulnerability Assessment (also known as a Scan or VA) is a cost effective, mostly automated test of computer systems which looks for vulnerabilities that could be exploited by an attacker. Unlike a penetration test, it does not try to exploit any vulnerabilities found, but instead reports on them.
