About the work

Why the work is being done
Newcastle University launched its new Vision in October 2018. To support the Vision a new design style has been developed to unify digital and offline communications. Roll out of the new style across the University's digital estate is now a key objective to be delivered in 2019.
Problem to be solved
The University's digital estate is large and complex. It is made up of a mixture of new and legacy systems. Roll out of the new design style must encompass a simplification of the IA which has grown organically over many years and a streamlining of key content messages to ensure the end result are in line with the Vision, brand and communications framework.
Who the users are and what they need to do
As a prospective student I need to find out about Newcastle University courses so that I can apply for a place.

As a current or prospective Research partner I need to be able to access Research that meets my needs quickly and easily.

As a policy or opinion influencer, I need to be aware of the great work Newcastle University is delivering and the benefits it is having on society in the UK and globally.

As a business, I need to be aware of Newcastle University knowledge exchange work so I can work out how to collaborate with them.

The Delivery Management of the project will be based in Great North House. The University is open to other members of the team also being based there or off site, depending on the needs of the project.

The University prefers to work in an Agile manner for developments with strong reporting and face to face contact when dealing with stakeholder management.

Questions asked by suppliers

1. Would you allow the development work to leverage the supplier’s offshore resources, if the supplier can provide enough evidence for data privacy and data protection?
We would have no objection to that, provided you can demonstrate in your response how exceptional levels of client service will be maintained.
2. How much work needs to be done on the design, UX and front end build? Or is it all done? We work on a number of University websites and use T4 as our back end development partner. Would this be an issue?
A visual design and a UX standard guide will be provided, but front-end development skills are essential.

It is not an issue to have worked on other University websites in T4.
3. Is there an incumbent supplier?
No, there is not an incumbent supplier.
4. Are you accepting applications that do not have experience with Terminal 4? We believe we can get up to speed quite quickly with it as we see a lot of similarities WCMS we have used.
Good technical knowledge and experience of Terminal 4 CMS is essential.
5. Can you please confirm if you are wedded to Terminal 4 CMS or open to using other CMS platforms / frameworks?
This work will be done using Terminal 4, other CMS platforms will not be considered for this project.
6. The tender indicates a 50% weighting on price, however there does not appear to be a question relating to price (or any means to submit pricing information). Do you require any pricing at this stage?
If you can include your pricing in your submission this would be preferable. We do understand supplier price details are available on the CCS website and we will use these. We will email for pricing is this is not the case.
