Summary of the work
The Home Office is exploring ways to improve its visa process. We need help:
▪ Identifying, contacting, scheduling, coordination of participants
▪ Managing and distributing incentives
▪ Managing of participant attendance
▪ Providing a suitable venue, host to manage participant flow when testing takes place outside of a HO local

About the research

Description of your participants
Participants must meet a specific set of criteria, including language, country of citizenship, type of Visas, tax bands and digital proficiency. Exclusions will also apply. Some of the criteria include:
• Members of the public travelling to the UK on a Visa
• US citizens travelling to the UK on Student Visas (Tier 4)
• Sponsors of US citizens travelling to the UK on Student Visas (Tier 4)
• External vetting agencies processing Tier 4 Visas
• UK Post Office employees that distribute BRPs to US
Excluded participants:
➢ Works in the designing or building of websites, or any other digital products or services
➢ Works at an airport or in government
Along the course of research, it is plausible additional user groups may be discovered and retroactively added to this brief. If this does happen, full recruitment criteria will be provided no later than 7 days prior to testing.
For Sponsors, 3rd party vetting agencies and UK Post Office user groups, the project team will provide initial contact details and the recruiter will be responsible for contacting and scheduling individual users.
Assisted digital and accessibility requirements
➢ 2 x ADHD (overall)
➢ 2 x Autism (overall)
➢ 50% of participants must meet criteria for low levels of digital/online skills and confidence (as defined in Appendix) (overall)
➢ 2 x physical impairment, one of which is visual
Research plan
We expect to test variations of designs, aiming for 50-70 users, several user groups and multiple locations (US,UK). We aim to start a period of iterative research and testing with users, starting Feb 2017, running 2-3 rounds of tests (across a combination of above user groups), completing May 2017. All specific test dates/locations tbc minimum 7 working days before research starts.
We expect to use a combination of face-to-face/remote interviews and (potentially) remote testing techniques (E.g. Online surveys).The specific method for each iteration of testing is tbd.
Research location
Various locations - some Home Office locations, some 3rd party partner locations, some vendor provided locations in both UK and NY, USA. We are flexible on where suppliers are based as long as they meet the criteria.
Access restrictions at location
Home Office locations will require security check on arrival and escorting. Participants must bring a valid photographic ID to all sessions.

Essential skills and experience
  • Ability to identify, contact, schedule and fully coordinate attendence of participants, including the provision of a suitable venue and hosts (to support participant flow) when needed.
  • Ability to recruit relevant users with short time frames (1-2 week window) using solid screening processes.
  • Ability to recruit access needs and low DI users
  • Ability to recruit users for face to face usability testing
  • Ability to recruit users for remote usability testing (including briefing and checking)
  • Ability to manage and deliver incentive
  • Ability to provide a single point of contact to reliably respond to communications by email or phone within 1 hour to 1 day (depending on the scenario) throughout the engagement.
  • Ability to identify risks you can see and how you propose mitigating against them
Nice-to-have skills and experience
  • Ability to recruit outside the UK, or partner with other organisations who can do so
  • Previous experience of working in the public sector
