The Principal Developer will be the technical lead as part of a product team and be responsible for working with senior colleagues to design and build technical products. This role requires developed leadership skills and experience leading an engineering team.
Full stack development:
- gov.uk service for receiving public submissions of Suspicious Activity Reports.
- Existing Search & Visualisation tool.
BAU operations.
Delivery of enhanced features and new functionality.
New feature development.
Deliver technology & architecture change.
Support the build of internal tooling and the application of analytical techniques.

Work will be carried out from a Home Office location primarily in Croydon and as required and in Suppliers’ offices.
Remote by arrangement & as needed to accommodate current COVID-19 restrictions.

The work will require the individual to work within an agile multidisciplinary product team in London. The team will work from the base location as required, Monday to Friday 09:00 – 17:00. Participation in stand-ups, planning sessions, show & tells and retrospectives as required.
Travel to stakeholder buildings within the M25 area on a regular basis. Additional travel outside of London may be required.
Expenses outside the M25 will be payable in accordance with the Home Office Travel (no Subsistence) policy. - Security clearance

The Software Engineer must be Home Office SC cleared before they can start work.
DV clearance is desirable.

Statements of work will be agreed periodically with the supplier on a fixed price, capped, or T&M basis with agreed deliverables.
Standard DOS framework and call-off terms and conditions.
Expenses outside the M25 will be payable in accordance with the Home Office Travel (no Subsistence) policy.
Adherence to DSA and HO security governance and standards is mandatory.

- 1. Is this appointment deemed outside IR35? Certain statements made in reference to the working location and arrangements would imply supervision, direction and control. If deemed outside IR35, please can you clarify why this appointment meets the criteria to be deemed as such?
- The HMRC IR35 online assessment has been undertaken and this role has been deemed outside of IR35.
- 2. Will you sponsor an SC clearance, and do they need to be DV Clearable? Will any other type of SC Clearance be considered?

The Home Office will sponsor the correct candidate for SC clearance, but the candidate must be SC eligible. This process has a minimum 35 working day timeline associated. All staff must be SC cleared before they start work.
A transfer of SC clearance from different government departments can be undertaken in shorter time frames.
A willingness to undergo DV clearance is desirable, not essential. - 3. Is there a current incumbent or preferred supplier for this role?
- This is a new role in DSA, transferring responsibility from a team outside of DSA. The successful candidate will be expected to work with the incumbent supplier to ensure successful technical and knowledge transfer. There is no preferred supplier.
